Buddhism in the West |
Call for ProposalsThis Consultation is open to proposals on any topic related to Buddhism beyond Asia. We especially invite submissions on the following topics:
MissionThis Consultation seeks to provide a venue for new studies on Buddhism in non-Asian locales, to further communication and exchange between scholars working on Buddhism outside of Asia, to offer a forum within which to collectively clarify the intellectual and methodological underpinnings of research on Buddhism in the West, and to consider new possibilities in methods and approaches. Our scope is defined by both an object of study — Buddhism — and a geographic area — the West — understood here broadly as including the Americas, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand (work on other non-Asian areas may also be considered if proponents can make a strong case for their relevancy). We hope not only to nurture a rapidly growing subfield, but also to stimulate interest in this area in related disciplines, such as Buddhist studies and American religious history. Anonymity of Review ProcessProposals are anonymous to Chairs and Steering Committee Members during review, but visible to Chairs prior to final acceptance or rejection.
