Native
Energy

The AAR is making it easy for members to purchase Renewable Energy Credits when traveling to the Annual Meeting. By simply clicking a box on the online registration page, members can choose to give $15 to NativeEnergy.

The AAR’s Sustainability Task Force selected NativeEnergy because of its commitment to reducing greenhouse gases while supporting its sustainability projects. NativeEnergy helps assist Native American, farmer-owned, community-based renewable energy projects that create social, economic, and environmental benefits. These projects displace electricity from fossil fuels and reduce other greenhouse gas emissions.

Last year, the AAR collected a total of $5,070 from 338 participants (8 percent of registrants) in this carbon offset program. Along with a $250 donation for the AAR’s staff travel, we sent NativeEnergy a check in the amount of $5,320, which went towards the development of the Rainier Digester/Generator Project in Enumclaw, Washington.

The AAR is continuing this program in 2011. We currently have an 11.5 percent participation rate, and we hope to maintain or improve on that as more members register in the coming months for the 2011 Annual Meeting. We encourage you to make this inexpensive commitment to helping make our meetings more environmentally friendly.

BART Sustainable Program

This year the AAR is also partnering with BART, San Francisco’s rapid transit system. The adoption of this program provides sustainable, ecofriendly travel from SFO to San Francisco and saves twenty-two pounds of carbon offsets per passenger trip. BART has direct service from the San Francisco International Airport (SFO) and the Oakland International Airport (OAK). We endorse and highly recommend taking BART. It’s the convenient, inexpensive, and ecofriendly way to get to and from the airport to downtown San Francisco for the Annual Meetings 2011. In association with BART, we’re offering a quick, easy, inexpensive way to get your round-trip transfer from SFO to San Francisco. If you’re arriving at SFO we encourage you to purchase this inexpensive BART transfer in advance. You’ll be able to print the voucher, take it with you, and exchange it at SFO for a BART ticket. It’s that easy.

AAR proceeds from the sale of these Voucher/tickets will go to NativeEnergy. Look for more information in the October 2011 issue of RSN, which will include a link to purchase your BART ticket in advance! Go green in San Francisco...go BART from SFO.
