| Religion and Ecology Workshop on “Dealing with Ecological Despair: Religion, Ecology, and Hope in the Classroom” |

Friday, October 29, 9:00 AM–5:00 PMThis workshop, led by activist and author Margaret Swedish, is intended for those who teach in the area of religion and ecology/religion and nature. Many who teach in this field face the problem of ecological despair in both their own research and teaching, and in the students that are learning about global environmental issues. In this workshop, participants will discuss experiences of ecological despair and share techniques for dealing with it in the classroom. There will be a lecture, question and answer session, and group discussion. Margaret Swedish served for twenty-five years as co-coordinator, then director of the Religious Task Force on Central America and Mexico in Washington, DC. Her publications include, Living Beyond the End of the World: A Spirituality of Hope (Orbis, 2008), and with Marie Dennis, Like Grains of Wheat: A Spirituality of Solidarity (Orbis, 2004). She is currently the author of the blog, "Spirituality and Ecological Hope," which is a project of the Center for New Creation: www.ecologicalhope.org. This is part of a day of events cosponsored by the Religion and Ecology Group, the Forum on Religion and Ecology, and the Sustainability Task Force.
