Dear Readers:

Welcome back to Religious Studies News! In this month’s issue, we have quite a number of items to call to your special attention.

We have added several enhancements to the website in the months since our last issue. You will notice below the Main Menu on the left-hand side of your screen that there is now a Resources box. Inside that box are several delightful additions to the website, including:

  • Ask Academic Abby: Advice given on professional concerns and how to navigate the occasionally treacherous waters of academe.
  • Archives: Past issues of RSN. At this time, only March RSN is here. Past issues will be added in the future.
  • Recommended Reading: Influential, pivotal, seminal, or otherwise important publications in various fields of religion and theology.

In the July issue, we have a wide variety of articles and announcements for your enjoyment.

On the Annual Meeting front, we have two very important announcements. The AAR and Society of Biblical Literature recently announced that we will be meeting on a concurrent Annual Meeting model starting at the 2011 San Francisco meeting. Details on how this will affect the Annual Meeting can be found here. One of the most immediate changes has resulted in a date and location change to the 2012 meeting, which will now be held in Chicago on November 17–20, 2012.

Also, the Board of Directors is recommending a new set of bylaws that would make important changes in the governance of the organization. A vote on ratification of the proposed bylaws will take place at the upcoming Annual Business Meeting in Atlanta on October 31, 2010. All AAR members are encouraged to attend and vote. Details can be found here.

We do hope you enjoy the new look and functionality of RSN as much as we enjoyed creating it for you. We plan to add enhancements with each issue, so there will be more to come! We welcome your feedback, so please feel free to contact us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Sincerely,
