Call for Proposals

This Group invites paper and panel proposals that engage the natural sciences from religious perspectives and consider the importance of developments in science and technology for religion. We encourage submissions in the following areas:

  • Public theology and technology, especially on black theology as public theology in the age of social networks, digital and online media, and cyberreligion (for a possible cosponsored session with the Black Theology Group)
  • Noting the significance of Donna Haraway’s critical thinking about animals, science, and technology for religious studies (for a possible cosponsored session with the Animals and Religion Consultation)
  • Proposals that engage Andrew John Nottage Robinson’s God and the World of Signs: Trinity, Evolution, and the Metaphysical Semiotics of C. S. Peirce (Boston, MA: Brill Academic Publishers, Inc., 2010)

Mission

This Group supports scholarship that explores the relationship of religion, theology, technology, and the natural sciences. We support research that attempts to bridge the gap between religious and scientific approaches to reality and encourage the development of constructive proposals that encourage engagement and dialogue with the sciences, along with a critical assessment of the meaning and impact of technologies for the human condition and the natural world.

Anonymity of Review Process

Proposals are anonymous to Chairs and Steering Committee Members during review, but visible to Chairs prior to final acceptance or rejection.
