The Religion and Public Education Resource Center (RPERC) at California State University, Chico, was established in 1995. It is the home of materials formerly housed at the National Council on Religion and Public Education (NCRPE) Distribution Center (Indiana University, Pennsylvania). The RPERC seeks to foster a greaterĀ  understanding of First Amendment guidelines for dealing with the topic of religion and public education, and provides resources for teaching about religions in public schools in ways that are constitutionally permissible and academically sound.

The RPERC serves both as a depository of existing materials and as a catalyst for the development and distribution of new materials relating to pedagogical and legal issues arising in connection with the topic of religion in the public schools. For classroom teachers, the RPERC offers curriculum guides and sample lessons in several subject areas. For administrators, school board members, members of the legal profession and interested members of the public, the Center provides brochures, background statements, bibliographies of resources, and reprints of pertinent articles. The Center also lists resources available for purchase from other organizations
and agencies.
