Call for Proposals

This Section invites proposals on the following topics and/or books:

  • The epistemic status of testimony

  • Rereading Spinoza

  • The power of narrative — feminist responses to Eleonore Stump’s Wandering in Darkness: Narrative and the Problem of Suffering (New York, NY: Oxford University Press, 2010)

  • Affect, passion, and rationality

  • Truth and religious studies

  • The viability of the metaphysical realism

  • Materialism, idealism, and religion in the nineteenth century

  • Faith and knowledge in Kierkegaard (for a possible cosponsored session with the Kierkegaard, Religion, and Culture Group)

  • Notions of mind and soul in modern philosophy

Mission

This Section analyzes the interface between philosophy and religion, including both philosophical positions or arguments within various specific religious traditions and more generalized philosophical theories about religion. We include in our purview not only traditional topics of Western philosophy of religion but also those arising from non-Western traditions and from the study of religion in a comparative context.
