While the host for this system is the American Academy of Religion in Atlanta, all participants (AAR, SBL, ASOR members and nonmembers) can use the system. Online registration is now available and will be operative until midnight of April 15th.

Preregistering will allow you to purchase meal tickets for the luncheon and banquet on Saturday. You will also be able to register (by check or cash — no credit cards) onsite. There will be no meal tickets for the luncheon and banquet available onsite — only by preregistration.

Important Note: Once you have registered, you should receive confirmation of your registration by e-mail. If you register and do NOT receive a confirmation e-mail, please notify Doug immediately!

Meeting Highlights

See below for some highlights of our upcoming meeting:

  • Norm Metzler from Concordia University will be delivering our annual Presidential Plenary address on Friday evening, May 13. Join us after dinner to hear our esteemed president and meeting host!
  • Our Banquet Speaker this year, on Saturday evening, May 14, will be Michael Fox from the University of Wisconsin.
  • Between the Saturday morning unit sessions and the Regional Lunch/Business Meeting, we will have two plenary sessions. An ASOR Plenary will host an address by Martha Joukowsky, Emeritus Professor at Brown University. Following the ASOR Plenary, an AAR Plenary will host an address by Wendy Farley from Emory University.
  • Once again, we hope to have tables at breakfast Sunday morning for authors of recent books in the region to be available to discuss their work with interested persons. Tables will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. Further information will be available at the onsite registration table. Authors should provide the following to Doug McGaughey, This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. SBL Regional Scholars Program

SBL members presenting a paper at the meeting may wish to be considered for the Regional Scholars Program. To qualify as a candidate for this award, the applicant must be either ABD or no more than four years past receipt of the PhD. Applicants should inform Ardy Bass, the SBL Regional Coordinator, at least two weeks prior to the meeting that he or she intends to apply for the award. The applicant must present a paper at the SBL regional meeting and then submit the paper and a complete CV (both in electronic and hard copy) to the Regional Coordinator after the meeting. If selected as a winner by the National Society's Regional Scholar Award Selection Committee, the winner receives $1,000 in support of attendance at the Annual SBL Meeting and will be honored at the Regional Scholars Dinner at the Annual Meeting. The winner is also strongly encouraged to submit a proposal to the Annual Meeting in the year following his or her selection.
